SKI POLES
Ski poles come in different shapes and sizes. On this page you will find everything you need to know about ski poles.
WHAT SHOULD YOU KNOW ABOUT SKI POLES?
PARTS OF THE SKI POLE
The ski pole consists of a handle, the pole itself, the dish at the bottom (also called a counter) and below that the tip. Do you often go off-piste? Then you can choose a pole with a larger counter. This will sink less into the deep snow.
WHICH MATERIALS ARE THERE?
Good ski poles are essential for a skier. They ensure good balance, rhythm and coordination. In addition, they are of course very handy for all kinds of other things. There are three things to consider when buying ski poles. The material, the stiffness and the weight. These three go hand in hand. Most ski poles are made of aluminium or carbon, but there are also ski poles made of bamboo, wood or titanium. The cheapest ski poles are made of aluminium, but this is sensitive to bending. Carbon is more flexible and does not bend, but carbon ski poles are more expensive to buy.
HOW LONG SHOULD MY SKI POLES BE?
Ski poles that are too long or too short can affect your skiing technique. Make sure that you choose the right length ski poles. An easier way to check if the length is correct is to hold the pole upside down. Grab the ski pole with your hand just below the counter and put the handle on the ground. Keep your forearms at a 90 degree angle. The pole should now just touch the ground.
TELESCOPIC SKI POLES
These are special ski poles that can be easily folded and carried in your bag. Ideal when you are hiking up the mountain and then skiing down.
